How bedding pellets work
Also sold as equine pelletized bedding, the pellets arrive dense and hard. Spread them in the stall and add water as the maker directs on the bag; they swell and break down into a fluffy, sawdust-like bed. Urine is absorbed into that bed, so you pick out the wet spots and manure and top up, rather than stripping the whole stall.
How many bags per stall?
It depends on the product, the stall size and how wet the horse keeps it. Each maker prints a starting amount per stall on the bag; start there, then top up with fresh pellets as the bed thins. For a whole barn, tell us the number of stalls on WhatsApp and we confirm a pallet price.
Our horse bedding guide explains how to set up and maintain a pellet bed.

Frequently asked questions
Are wood pellets good for horses?
As bedding, many barns use them for their absorbency and easy storage. Use pellets made and sold for bedding, like the products in this category, not heating pellets. They are not feed.
Can I use horse bedding pellets for chickens?
Many owners use pine bedding pellets in coops and for small animals. Check the maker’s label that the product is suitable for that use.
How do I get bedding pellets to expand?
Spread them and add the amount of water the maker gives on the bag; wait for them to break down, then fluff the bed with a fork.
